This work invites the question of whether the image was captured as is or recreated in some way. Hielo by Adela Goldbard depicts a landscape with pieces of ice on the ground. No action is taking place in the photograph, but the viewer can make assumptions about what preceded this scene. What are fragments of ice doing on the forest floor? Regardless of the reason, the artist created a fantastical scenario, focusing on subtleties. While it is clear that the ice is alien to its context, the attention to detail—such as the size, space, and arrangement of the pieces—turns the construction into an imaginative but coherent image.
Colección FEMSA has an image bank of the works that comprise it—a resource intended for researchers, publishers, and art institutions. The Collection is open to lending requests for shows in Mexico and other countries.
