There are two presences in this black-and-white photograph, and the piece’s title opens the door to questioning the relationship between the two. A man looks at the sky, where he sees a flock of birds in flight. His identity is unknown. Certain details, such as his hair disheveled by the wind or the lapels of his jacket, suggest a similarity to the birds’ wings that, in turn, fly in what appears to be an asynchronous journey. These details represent themes often found in the work of Graciela Iturbide, which usually presents characters and scenes that could have easily come from stories and legends.
Colección FEMSA has an image bank of the works that comprise it—a resource intended for researchers, publishers, and art institutions. The Collection is open to lending requests for shows in Mexico and other countries.
