Alquimia II depicts representative elements of Olga de Amaral’s work. As the title suggests, the work arises from the alchemy of diverse elements frequently associated with textile production. The composition blurs the boundaries between textile art, design, and craftsmanship. As with the rest of her pieces, the artist worked from a place of self-reflection and exploration of Colombian culture and her identity, recovering materials and techniques. In particular, the use of gold and the intricate composition of textiles relate to the artisanal and historical techniques of pre-Hispanic and colonial civilizations.
Colección FEMSA has an image bank of the works that comprise it—a resource intended for researchers, publishers, and art institutions. The Collection is open to lending requests for shows in Mexico and other countries.
