Marta María Pérez Bravo

(Havana, Cuba, 1959)

Bio

Marta María Pérez Bravo studied painting at the Academia de Artes Plásticas San Alejandro and the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA) in Havana, Cuba. Despite having trained in painting, she developed an interest in photography, which became her primary medium. In her work, she frequently uses her body as part of montages that feature elements of Afro-Caribbean culture, including Santeria rituals and beliefs. Since 1995, she has lived and worked in Mexico.
