Carla Rippey

(Kansas City, Kansas, United States, 1950)

Bio

Carla Rippey studied at the Sorbonne, in France, and at the State University of New York. She has also participated in graphics workshops at the Universidad de Chile and the Universidad Católica de Chile. Her experience in screen printing began with her participation in the Boston feminist movement and her resistance to Salvador Allende’s dictatorship in Chile. In 1973, she arrived in Mexico, and during the 1980s, she played an active role in the Mexican art scene. Some of the themes present in her work are women’s identity, interculturalism, and memory, which she has explored through different techniques such as drawing, engraving, screen printing, and collage. Her work has been shown in multiple exhibitions in Mexico and the United States.
