This series of works on canvas seems to present a set of clues: geometric figures, book pages, allusions to paper. The elements in Liliana Porter’s painting allow us to question whether we’re looking at an essay or a series of messages to decipher. Each element has its place and order within a composition in which hands draw lines—a composition that studies and represents geometric figures in two and three dimensions and incorporates additional figures that nod to still lifes and a space of synthesis from previously explored scenes. Extremely dedicated to considering the role of miniature elements in her works, Porter demonstrates the potential of collecting objects to construct a story. Essays, memories, or ideas—the elements in the work offer a glimpse into an exploration of ideas and their integration into a project.
Colección FEMSA has an image bank of the works that comprise it—a resource intended for researchers, publishers, and art institutions. The Collection is open to lending requests for shows in Mexico and other countries.
