Pemex depicts an everyday place—a gas station—in a context that forces the viewer to pay attention to the particularities of the image, which result from significant light contrasts. By highlighting the duality between light and darkness, the artist carries out a kind of archaeology of the quotidian, giving a leading role to frequently inhabited places.
Colección FEMSA has an image bank of the works that comprise it—a resource intended for researchers, publishers, and art institutions. The Collection is open to lending requests for shows in Mexico and other countries.
