Mientras me despierto presents elements commonly found in Julio Galán’s work, such as the representation of the male figure (usually interpreted as a version of the artist) and the allusion to religious objects. Other presences seem to make no sense, such as a dog holding a knife and a rope, hands emerging from borders in the image, and lines so subtle that they suggest the appearance of the subconscious. As its title suggests, the piece illustrates a dream with elements that enter and exit the frame without following a particular logic. The vivid colors harken back to the type of dream that is experienced, that happens in a waking state. The events seem so real that they remain in one’s memory until the next day or even several days later.
