Estudios sobre la felicidad is a project that Alfredo Jaar started in 1979, when Chile was going through a military dictatorship. It involved intervening in urban spaces, asking the question, “Are you happy?” inviteding members of the public to reflect, taking into account their context marked by hypervigilance and the possible consequences of political dissent. The artist revived this project on several occasions. Estudios sobre la felicidad (Horno 3) depicts an intervention in the Parque Fundidora de Monterrey performed as part of the XII FEMSA Biennial, for which the curatorial program was How to live more with less? The recreation of the piece in Monterrey questioned the global trend toward unlimited production in a world with limited resources.
