Artist is an installation comprising a photograph of books, a book, and a digital photo frame. Beyond the importance of order within the composition, the work is a reinterpretation of the portrait: the artist delved into her personal library to articulate elements of her identity through books. Although she presents them as artistic objects in this piece, this does not detract from their primary function: storytelling. That is, the work portrays what books tell us about those who read or protect them—their motivations, interests, and individual experiences.
Colección FEMSA has an image bank of the works that comprise it—a resource intended for researchers, publishers, and art institutions. The Collection is open to lending requests for shows in Mexico and other countries.
