Olga de Amaral studied Architectural Design at the Colegio Mayor de Cundinamarca in Colombia, as well as a postgraduate degree in Textiles at the Cranbrook Academy of Art in the United States. Since the 1960s, she has experimented with the possibilities of textiles in relation to other materials (linen, cotton, horsehair, gesso, and palladium), with which she weaves, knots, braids, and intertwines threads to create monumental and three-dimensional pieces. She has had solo shows in more than 20 places in countries in America, Asia, and Europe, in addition to in her home country of Colombia. Her work has also been part of various group shows internationally.
Colección FEMSA has an image bank of the works that comprise it—a resource intended for researchers, publishers, and art institutions. The Collection is open to lending requests for shows in Mexico and other countries.
