Adolfo Best Maugard began his studies in Mexico but completed them in Europe. When he returned to his home country, he was part of a generation of artists and writers who sought inspiration from Mexico’s pre-Columbian past and the European avant-garde to create a new national identity. He devised the Best Maugard Method of drawing, which influenced the creative work of subsequent generations of artists and became part of the curricula of Mexican schools. In addition to being a visual artist, he was a choreographer, painter, drawing scholar, art teacher, film director, cameraman, writer, thinker, and promoter of Mexican culture.
Colección FEMSA has an image bank of the works that comprise it—a resource intended for researchers, publishers, and art institutions. The Collection is open to lending requests for shows in Mexico and other countries.
